Diversity
I strive to promote diversity, inclusion, and equity in my classroom teaching. I am committed to working with students and faculty regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, language, abilities/disabilities, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or country of origin.
Teaching Strategies for promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity (SKILLS):
Self-criticism and evaluation: Challenge my beliefs and teachings and offer more opportunities for students to evaluate the teaching.
Know my students well: Encourage students to talk and listen to their needs.
Inclusive and equal access: Use a variety of teaching methods that are inclusive of different learning styles, such as visual aids, group work, and hands-on activities. Ensure all students have equal access to resources and opportunities in the classroom, regardless of their background or identity.
Love: Teach with love. Always be patient and kind to every single student.
Learn from your students: Be humble while teaching. Students can be my teachers.
Safe and welcoming classroom environment: Create an equitable classroom environment by asking questions equitably of all students and using multiple ways of assessing student understanding.
